Hello.... I am having a problem with some equipment that i maintain that has
happily been running XPe since 2004. The mother boards are failing and are
obsolete so i am looking to install the software on another machine that
follows a roadmap so that i will have some security in the future.
Unfortunatly the application that the current units run is no longer
maintained as the company that wrote it went to the wall 3 years ago so i
need to move it to the new machine. I tried to install the drivers for the
new machine on the old one then using EWFmanagers '-commit' command but it
comes up with 'error 1'. I cannot boot it up in safe mode on the new machine
(using the old machines h/d) as it fails miserably and presents me with a
blue screen and hangs up. I am a hardware junkie not a programmer and i am
currently stuck. Do i need to 'unlock' XPe? I have tried transfering the
application from the old machine to a new one using 'PC Mover' software but
it could not do it as some files where 'secured'.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Hi Rick,
do you still have project for your devices? I mean the .SLX file and related
embedded database, plus at least the exec code of your application.
If not, a new project from scratch should be done, unless you are able to
find a board that is still made and has chipsets and devices like the old
one.
To do a new project for a new board that behaves like the old one is not
easy if you have no previous experience, I suggest to ask your local
Microsoft Embedded supplier for help.
The new board choice is still very important, if possible choose one that
comes with XPE support from provider, to go much faster to your working
project.

Hi Rick,
I forget to reply about command to disable EWF
command is
EWFMGR C: -disable
or
EWFMGR C: -commit ( not if ram reg mode)
or
EWFMGR C: -commitanddisable

where C is the protected drive. Command is operative after system restart.
