Upgrade issues

I have two issues:

1. I upgraded from ME to XP. Why do I lose my Microsft
works?

2. Since I upgraded to XP I keep getting these beige
message pop-ups. Is there a way to stop these without
having to purchase something for pop-ups?

Basically, you need to enable the firewall.
