Do you think you'll be able to install Windows Vista on Windows XP Pro?

I need to know because I don't want to erase my hard disk before to install
Vista, I'd like to install Vista upgrading current Windows XP.. is it
possible in your opinion?

Regardless of what you may read, Vista is NOT an upgrade of XP. It requires
it's own, clean partition. Since I am a Beta tester I added a machine that
isn't job critical. A second hard drive set to dual boot is another option.

Well eventually yeh you'll be able to upgrade in the final release, but some
allow it already. They'll transfer your files and settings across just
fine... but for the time being, create a new partition and install from
there. Needs to be an NTFS (not RAW or FAT32) for it to work as well.

Reading Zack's reply reminded me of something I learned over the years. With
32 bit XP a formatted cluster size of 2048kb tended to speed things up a
little and kept fragmentation down a bit. When I got 64 bit XP
experimentation showed that Windows default cluster size was best. Now comes
Vista and I find that anything up to 8192kb cluster sizes work best because
of the huge amounts of data that Vista must deal with (overhead mostly). I
know this is an arguable point but since we're here to help and discuss
things it is something to consider and possibly even try.
