UPGRADE Hangs

Hi......Hopefully someone has a clue and can offer assistance.

I am using windows2k PRO w sp4. I was able to manually downlaod and
install sp4.
Clicking on windows update--nothing happens. Also there is no windows
update link in ie6-tools ?? Where'd it go?
I have to manually go to the MS site. When I click on the get critical
updates the procecss starts-asks me to accept the license issue and
then stops.......nothing happens????????Hence the problem.

I have tried everything I can think of......

What do the svcpack.log and WindowsUpdate.log file show? Please post the
last few lines ... hopefully with the relevant error messages.

I have been able to download manually many of the critical sp's and
the media player and ie and sp4. The scan for updates will note this
but still when I try to sownload via that route upon accepting the LA
the download doesn't even start but hangs there.

The other wierd thing is that by trying to go to the windows update
site via the link in START doesn't do anything and there is no link in
IE/tools. I have to go there manually.
I tried re-installing the vb scripting also with no success.
I also tried most if not all ideas in the update troubleshooter link.

Not sure when this all started...I was updating manually , then went
to automatic, then tried to disable automatic as it didnt seem to work
properly. I think I have disabled it but cannot get back to manual.

Seems this was the culprit:

An installation support file could not be installed. The specified
module could not be found.

Symptoms While attempting to install ERD Commander 2003, installation
stops and the computer displays the error . An installation support
file could not be installed. The specified module could not be found.

Summary The error occurs due to a corrupted registry value. Follow
these steps to delete the registry value:

Resolution Go to Start > Run and type in regedit to open the registry.
Expand under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive to CLSID\{00020420-0000-0000-
C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32. Delete the corrupted registry value
InprocServer32.



Now it connects,scans and downloads correctly. Just have to figure out
how to get the download link back in ie6-tools menu.
