I am running XP Home on a 2.8 gig HP with 512 Ram. I am
having some shutdown issues, but other than that all is
running well. I wanted to know if I could install XP Pro
over XP home, and if it might clean up any isues with
shutdown, and would it leave all my apps loaded alone. I
also don't know whether it wou;d be Upgrade or Full
package. I appreciate anyone experience in this, as I
don't want to create more problems for myself, but
thought Pro might be the better OS. Definitely do not
want to start over reloading my software, and want to
make sure if it is upgrade or full if I do it.

Thanks for any help.

Sincerely,

Jon Pousette-Dart

Yes, you can upgrade from XP Home to Pro, you would need
to reinstall any service packs and patches you have
installed. All applications would stay on the system, as
would your data (as always, you should backup the machine
before doing something such as an OS upgrade or
install). You can use the XP Pro Upgrade version to do
this.

However, it will not take care of any issues you are
experiencing such as the shutdown problems you mention.
XP Pro is exactly the same as XP Home with some added
features - the core OS is the same.

What are the exact problems you're having? It's much
easier to work on the problems than to attempt an OS
upgrade, unless you want the added features of XP Pro.
