I am attempting to upgrade my laptop from Windows ME to
Windows XP. The upgrade software I purchased says it can
not find a version of Windows on the machine. This is an
error; it was there yesterday. I don't have the Windows
ME CD though -- it came pre-installed, and the recovery
CD has long since disappeared. How can I "prove" to the
computer that Windows is there? I have the Product Key...

Without an actual Windows 95/98/ME, you cannot do anything
but return your "upgrade version" of Windows XP and purchase a
"full version".

Brian;
You need to find the lost CD...or return the upgrade and buy the full
version.

Wow. No wonder Microsoft makes so much money.

I can't return the upgrade. And I'm not willing to spend
hundreds of dollars to fix something that I didn't break.
I guess that computer has bit the dust.

Thanks for the reply.
