Upgrade from RC versions

I know this has to have been asked already, but does anyone know if you can
purchase a Vista upgrade (as opposed to a full install version) if you're
running Vista RC1?
Seems like you should be able to, since I had XP on my test machine before
putting the RC1 on it. But I definitely don't want to go out and spend $150
on Home Premium Upgrade if it's only going to work if I have XP installed.
Could probably dig up my old XP disc somewhere, but would rather not have to
look if it won't be an issue...

Beta versions of Windows Vista are not eligible for upgrading
using the upgrade version of Windows Vista. It is highly
recommended that you purchase a "Full Version" license
of Windows Vista and perform a "clean install". Otherwise,
you would have to perform a "Clean Install" of Windows XP,
then upgrade to Windows Vista using an upgrade version.

Since RC1 is an Ultimate edition, the only upgrade you can do is with an
Ultimate retail full edition. As Carey points out, RC1 is pre-release
software and not eligible for upgrade edition pricing. If you buy Ultimate
full you can perform and upgrade-in-place to preserve your files, settings,
and apps.

You can purchase any full edtion of Vista below Ultimate if you would
rather, but you will have to migrate your files and settings from RC1 to the
rtm version with the Windows Easy Transfer wizard, do a clean install of the
rtm Vista, and then restore your files and settings with WET. You will have
to reinstall your apps.

If you want to buy an upgrade edition, save your files and settings with WET
and then do a clean install of XP and activate it. Then perform the upgrade
to Vista, restore your files and settings, and reinstall your apps.
