I just upgraded my hardware from a P3 500 MHz to new a P4
3.06 GHz processor and 800 Mhz FSB Intel D865PERLK
Desktop Motherboard. The computer had winxp pro on it
before the upgrade now it does not work.
The systems goes through the POST and then to the boot
operating system menu choice just after the that I get a
quick blue screen with numbers. Is seems that it may be a
possible memory lockup of some sort. I can not make out
what it says for the the brief time its on the screen
then the system reboots it will continue to the the same
thing over and over, even if you try to boot in safe mode
it does the same thing. I do not know what is worng yet
any suggestions let me know.

You need to do a reinstall of the operating system so the
proper drivers for the new mobo and CPU will be installed.

You should have done some homework before making that
type of change to your system. With that being said your
problem is witht he operating system that was installed
on your hard-drive. It has all the drivers for your past
hardware. When ever you make a dramatic change to
hardware like the motherboard the old drivers for the
chipsets and motherboard components will not work with
it. These drivers are already installed and can't be
changed. It is recommended that you start from scratch
when installing amotherboard. You have a few options if
you want to save the OS or data on your system.
If you want to save everything you got a shot. You can
try two things. You can put the old motherboard and CPU
back in start the computer normally and it will run ok.
Then go into safemode and delete everything in your
device manager. This will force the HAL to update all teh
device drivers the next time XP starts. This in theory
should work. I told one person about this before and it
did work for them. However, it isn't a gaurentee and it
is alot of work. The other option is to run REPAIR from
your XP CD. Now if there is a problem during the install
you may corrup the OS and if you switch the motherboard
back to the original one after this you wont be able to
delete the drivers in the device manager because your OS
is now corrupted. So I recommend you try the first step
then the second in that order. This way you got two shots
at fixing the problem and recovering without reinstalling
everything. Otherwise, do a parallel install of XP. If
you have two Hard-drives. If you need anymore help let me
know.

Hope this helps and goodluck,
Chris P.
