upgrade from ME

I upgraded my only home computer from ME to XP Home Edition. During the
upgrade I received a message that the Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer is
not compatible with XP. I could not find any drivers to update this device
either. Nevertheless I continued wiith the XP upgrade installation. Now
that XP is installed, I do not get any sounds through the computer. And I
continue to get messages about this audio device not being installed every
time I turn my computer on. And I can't install it via XP.

My computer is Dell Dimenson 4100 with 512 MB RAM and 40 GB hard drive. It
has the Creative AudioPCI which is OEM (came with the computer) and appears
to be the source of the problem. I've tried various things suggested by the
Microsoft help and support web site and nothing helped.

Does anyone have any suggestions what can I do to get the sounds back? My
computer has been working beautifully with ME, but I need XP for certain
programs and I am not ready to purchase another computer at this time. Thank
you.

Where did you look for drivers?

Shows there are audio drivers for the several different types of audio
devices that machine can have for Windows XP. Pick yours, download and
install.

I suggest getting all other drivers as well..

Where did my sounds go?

Thank you for responding. However, it did not work. Although the
extraction of the saved driver files occurred, I did not get the
HTML Pop-Up With Install Now Button or the Dell Software
Installation Documentation window etc. So I still have no sounds.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

Did you try running the setup manually from the extracted files directory in
question?

Thanks so much to everyone who responded. I tried the suggestion written by
Brian Sesko in his response to Loni S' post "No sound after reload of xp -
error code 28" and IT WORKED! Although I am profoundly deaf (I am able to
hear only with a hearing aid), the sounds were "music to my ears"!
