Upgrade from Home to Pro

I have a corrupted registry because when attempting to upgrade from McAfee
Viruscan 8.0 to 8.5 my system was interupted. I cannot remove McAfee 8
(required) before upgrading to 8.5 via Add/Remove in control Panel. McAfee
offers a convoluted manual routine for removal which requires major surgery
to the registry which I am loath to tackle.
A colleague suggested that I upgrade to Pro (I have a slipstream copy - my
university has a MS site license) and that would fix things. Before doing so,
coward that I am, I thought tthat I should get some advice from experts in
the field. Note that my PC (Dell Dim 9150~ 1 yo) operates ok except for this
problem. I would appreciate any advice on how or whether to attempt this
procedure.....

First save any data that you want to keep, then do a clean install of XP Pro
and you should be fine..
 
An upgrade is not going to cure the problem.
If neccessary print out McAfee manual removal & follow it - having first
backed up data -
