I've went from windows 98 to windows 2000 professional now
my computer does not reconize my internal modem or printer
I can't get the recovery disks to work. I've attempted to
download SR-1a but the core files didn't copy. The
service pack 6 and 4 say they are downloading but never
install. I need to load microsoft office 2003 but I can't
get that far. Please help!!!!!!!

Stephanie - you most likely need, at least, to get from manufacturs'
websites the latest Win2000 modem and printer drivers. Win98 drivers
won't work.

Also, a clean install of Win2000 (assuming your machine can actually run
Win2000), rather than an upgrade from another system, will very probably
give you a more reliable, error-free Win2000 in both the short and the
long run.

One quick way to see if Win2000 itself believes it can be successfully
installed on your machine is to go, with the Win2000 CD in the drive, to
a command prompt and type the command below. The command (with that
parameter) will not start an install; the win32.exe installer will
instead analyze your system and give you a report on what if any
potential problems it sees, and what if any steps you can take to
overcome them before attempting the install:

[CDdrive]:\i386\winnt32.exe /checkupgradeonly

Thanks Dan, I'll try it!!!
