Upgrade from 98 SE to XP Pro

I have upgraded a computer to Windows XP Pro from Windows 98 SE retaining the
FAT32 file system. When the computer boots it will not go past the Windows
98 logo screen, the progress bar just keeps running and the keyboard is
locked.

I can get it to boot into Safe Mode and into Safe Mode with Networking just
fine.

I have disable all startup drivers and programs that are not necessary.

When I boot using the /sos switch it loads past the drivers screen and hangs
on the screen that displays the information about the disk and partitions.

If I install any program or update that requires a reboot in Safe Mode and
then reboot it will boot up just fine that one time, if you reboot again it
will hang. All programs and drivers seem to be running fine when the
computer is booted.

Has anyone experienced this issue and is there a resolution for it.

Thanks,
Ron

If did an Upgrade properly, you won't see Windows 98 at all!!!
Win XP should run and see XP logo and login screen.

You might have some mis-configured "Dual Boot" installation?
Is there a menu at startup that ask you to chose bet win98 and win xp?

You can get into Win 98 Safe mode?

Could yuo expalin what yuo mean by this?
"hangs on the screen that displays the information about the disk and

If you're getting a Windows 98 screen, you *didn't* upgrade it. After
upgrading, you'd have a Windows XP screen instead.

Please clarify exactly what you did and how.

I am sorry I did not clarify. The Windows XP logo screen is just sitting
there when I boot not the Windows 98.

Also when I used the /sos switch on boot all of the drivers loaded but it
stopped at the screen that shows the disk partitions.
