maybe this would be better placed in the hardware forum but here goes, just upgraded my grphics card as per the subject header from one nvidia board to another. Wasnt expecitng massive performance increase, replaced because fan was shot and card was too old to get a replacement fan. Anyway, tried it with Jedi academy and its worse than the original! Is this becuase I'm doing soemthign stupid or because the newer card isnt supported? SHould I expect a noticeable difference with games? Not a gamer really as you might have guessed from the spec of card but do play occasionally.

well a 6200 is quite an average card, you were much better off with a 6600 GT :D

have you made sure that you have plugged the PSU cables into the card so it has full power?

4200Ti was a VERY good card in its time, and the 6200 sucks.

I think the older one is probably better.

The 4200Ti was very well sort after card ... the 6200 is err, a graphic card.

;)

I had a Leadtek GeForce 4 Ti4800

It was an AGP8x Vivo version of the Ti4200

Fantastic piece of kit

awwww

b*gger!

Looks like I made a poor choice then, still at least PC is quieter now, no fan on new card.

Am really surprised at how comparatively rubbish new one is, I was charged only £20 for 4200 as part of new PC build 3 years ago so assumed it wasn't all that great and would be superceeded by the new base spec nvidia - you live and learn...

I have an ti4200
and a fx5200

the ti4200 is the best graphics card I have ever owned
it is QUALITY

i suggest sticking with it! :) it is better than the 6200 thats for sure!

Im still rocking a ti4600. Nearly 5 years later its still going strong. If Nvidia didnt suck, theyd have added pixel shading 1.3, made it dx9 compatible and id be able to play bf2 and medium settings. I probabally should have waited a month, got a 9500 pro and modded it to a 9700 but BF1942 had just come out and a my little heart couldnt wait a month.

note - id get that 6200 on ebay and get something more compatible with life.

sounds like you should stick with the card you got. (unless you want to play something like fear or bf2)

Nice deal for getting the 4200 Ti for 20 quid. Mine cost me 100! problem you gots is that the Ti was not a budget card. whereas the 6200 is. Back in nvidias Ti days, they sold the Ti and the MX, mx being budget, Ti being blazing glory with 10 guns and a machete just in case you ran out of your 20,00000,0000 bullets. I would agree that the 6600GT is the minimum card to go for these days. Anything less, and your jumping back in generations. My 4200 is still going strong - as does my 5900.

all the Ti's were, and still are, very good cards. Even my old gefroce 4 mx was able to struggle through games like hl2 and bf2 on 1024x1280 when i swapped it in when i was bored a few weeks ago
