I have several machines running Windows XP Pro but may be looking at
upgrading to a version of Vista in the future.

Before I migrate all of my machines, I would like to test Vista on just one.
I would like to know if the Upgrade Edition of Vista Home Premium can be
used with a volume licence key.

J. Hammler,

Good question, I honestly don't know. I know you were able to upgrade XP
Home to XP Pro via a Volume License key, but since Microsoft has really
changed the way upgrades more or less work, I don't wanna place any bets
that you can.

No, Vista Home Premium is licensed as a Retail and OEM version of Windows,
so a VL Key will not work.

Yes, if I remember correctly, retail versions could not be installed with a
VLK. So I assume that Vista Home Premium Upgrade will not like being
installed over a volume edition of XP, but it should work from a retail copy
of XP fine.

I guess it's fine to dig out that copy of XP Home I have knocking around
somewhere...

Thanks for your help, everyone.

You still need the media for the Volume License...

But you CAN upgrade.
