If you think changing just a processor mandates a reinstall of Windows, you
are the uneducated one. That is the funniest thing I have ever heard!

After a few upgrades on my own systems, i have found that the only time you
need to re-install windows is if you change a major component like the
mother board or hard drive that the orriginal copy of windows is on, most
other changes in hard ware do not justify a re-install, just a xhange in
driver setup, so there for up-ing the proccessor you dont need to to
reinstall, but cos your installing a fx processor you will need to install
ecc ram as thats what an fx processor requires after a lengthy convo with
amd support a while ago

They haven't needed registered or ECC since the move to S939. They run just
fine on non-ECC RAM. Here is a list of their validated modules, but many
others (any industry standard should) will work.

The FX series has never needed ECC RAM. On socket 940 it needed
Registered RAM, which could be either ECC or Non-ECC. When they
designed the socket 939 memory controller they eliminated the need for
Registered RAM.
