OK,

Thinking about new upgrade, want some opinions....

-ASUS board or LAN PARTY..... here they are on a comparison sheet....

Not quite sure where to go with this, its going to be a gaming pc, and I use a wireless card for internet so onboard lan is free. I love the Idea of the ASUS features, but a better board is more important.

-I want a pair of these cards, most likely will only be able to aford just one for now......

-and as recomended the AMD Athalon 64 3500 venice

comming to just under $800.00 (w/ one video card)with tax and shipping. Any suggestions, changes I should make?

looking at the comaparison the Asus has slightly more on it so i'd go with that, i dont know the speeds of other 6800GT's but it may be worth looking into and maybe get a different make, i've heard that XFX aren't the greatest

XFX is one of the best gfx card makes out there. Always liked them and there products. I have an Asus board, and i've had no problems with it so far, but Lan Party are also highly regarded in the motherboard world, either way you cant lose, both great boards.

Since the beginning I was impressed by the ASUS board, but I was hearing all this talk about the LANPARTY being the preferred as a gaming board. But thanks guys, I'm see if with next check I can grab my gear. That should be exiting.

Theres now a "premium" version of the asus a8n, with a heat pipe to keep the chipset cool. This version does not require a daughter card to switch to SLI, it uses software instead

I have the deluxe version and rate them allot; been the best MoBo i have built and used, DFI are great and I’ve heard good things about them, however i have never used one myself

I found it at a local store, I did see it, but the other version is on sale. So if by then it drops in price some, I might get that one instead.

****man you guys have to see this review and what this guy lists as his rig, now this guy has money*****

This mobo is GREAT. Improved a little over the Deluxe I think its worth it. The heatpipe makes a pretty big difference in te chipset temp. Very stable and of course has everything you will ever need besides built in wifi.

My rig:
AMD X2 4800+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2GB OCZ DDR-600 PLT
XFX 7800GTX SLI
Enermax noisetanker 600watt AIO
2 200gb WD SATAII Raid 1

Well as it turns out I will not be able to purchase any upgrades to my pc for a long while. My car broke down, and its down for the count. Got a used car, finansed it. I'm in the hole for a while. :(

Sorry to hear about having to get a new car Raje :(

They are both good motherboards, but I do favour DFI, they look good, are well laid out and have a lot of nice little extra touches.

But I wouldn't kick an Asus out of bed either ;)

And the Athlon Venice core has 512Kb L2 cache, whereas the San Diego core has 1mb L2 cache. Something to consider when choosing your chip.

I've got the Asus board, bought it about 6 weeks ago. I'd vouch for it definately. Lots of space between the SLI slots for cooling, and a generally well-made board. Loads of scope in the BIOS for tweaking everything too, and I'm told the board will run a dual-core CPU with just a BIOS upgrade.

It's also got more expansion slots, both PCI-X and PCI, more USB connectors, more audio connectors and better sound.

No-one seems to fault the DFI board either though.

The SLI spacing, the BIOS and the slots did it for me.

hey jock, dont you have a AMD based board?
if you do i think you can just drop a Dual core CPU without a bios update.... but thats just me

Hey Alf, yeah I do. I thought we were talking about the ASUS A8N? That's a socket-939 AMD board, will take Ath64s or FXs.
