You could try going into control panel and removing all the drivers,
installing all the new parts and then doing a repair install of XP.
Personally if you're changing that much stuff, I would go for a clean
install.

Some have made it work by removing certain items from device manager
before the upgrade. My own attempt was a disaster. I'd just back my
stuff up and choose the time of the upgrade as a good time to
reinstall.

Mine was from an Intel to an Intel. I only had to place the old drive with
OS fully intact into another complete Intel System. It was almost automatic
and repair install worked flawlessly. The drive was the ONLY thing that
wasn't new.

I would say that it would be prudent at this time to clone that System drive
to a larger one keeping the old one to merely replace at any sign of things
going wrong. Then start again with nothing to lose but time.

Maybe.

You may need to do a repair installation. That's straightforward, if you
have a retail XP upgrade or full installation CD. If you have no CD, or have
an OEM license, it may be better to buy a retail license.

Note that if you have a CD that isn't at the service pack level of the
installation (SP1, SP2), you'd benefit from preparing a new version of the
CD with SP2 "slipstreamed" onto it. I've never used it, but autostreamer is
supposed to be a good utility for doing that. Google it, if you like.
