How can one know what is the LAST version of beta 2 and the last
definitions?
It seems that updating does not work properly. I get a popup telling that I
am up to date while I know I am not.
Thank you for your help,
dbessis

Hello dbessis,

Always some body post the right info about the last Version, Engine and
Signatures.

Like this one is up to today;

WD v. 1.1.1347.0
Engine v. 1.1.1372.0
Signature v. 1.14.1436.4 created on 5/2/2006 at 5:15 AM

Try to gº to
http://update.microsoft.com
and select Express (Get high-priority updates), and apply all offered updªtes

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs?

There are many pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and
signature update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºsts.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Engel,

The problem is the following:
Only definitions can not be updated. They remain stuck at 4/26/06. Each time
I use "Windows update", it downloads the Defender update, install it, asks
for a reboot and, unfortunately do not update the definitions.
Something prevents the job to be done. Any idea?
Many thanks for your help,
dbessis

This could be a windows update issue. Can you verify you can install other
updates offered on http://www.windowsupdate.com.

Steve,
All other updates are installed correctly.
Windows Defender update is downloaded correctly but cannot be installed.
I do not know why.
I am trying to find where it is downloaded.

Having read through the Defender discussion section to resolve a "Defender
update failure" problem, what you describe seems to be a common problem. It
obviously does not only relate to Windows Update, or network connectivity, or
administrative updates pushed across a network. I mention this because it
appears that moderators and MS techs have recommended a variety of things in
this area that resoundingly do not fix the problem. Good luck.

Bill,
Thanks.
However, my case is very strange. I update but alwas to the previous update!
For instance, when the last was 05/01/06. I updated to 04/26/06.
Now that the last one is 05/08/06 I started to update (automatically) to
5/01/06/.
There must be something wrong with dates.

Engel,

Is there a way to inform Microsoft of the extremely strange updating
behavior of the Defender I got on my computer?
It updates without problem and automatically but always of the PREVIOUS
update!
Most likely Microsoft does not care at all of any behavior of this product
strange or not.

Daniel Bessis

Hi dbessis,

Posting in these groups is the mechanism available to us.

Microsoft does read these groups, and feedback here does get incorporated
into the further work on the product.

Now I don't promise nothing, but if you read this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375

What I means is -put attention by posting excellent repro steps with a
great amount of detail, and post it in Steve Dodson Weblog at
http://blogs.technet.com/stevedod/
maybe you get a replay.

Eиçel

That's a pretty interesting set of circumstances--not sure what to make of
it. I'd still advise using that KB--in particular the KB 915105 that it
links to--I think there's a good chance that one would resolve this for you.
