Updating workstations for DST

So if we update all of our workstations with the PDC for time and date every
4 hours, and we update the PDC and all servers, do we really need to mess
with all the workstations with the patch for DST?

Why wouldn't you want to apply the workstation DST patch?

Yes, but if they aren't in the same time zone you're going to have problems.
More than a 5min time skew between client & server, and nobody will be able
to log in.

Just install the workstation patch - it's quick and painless. If you've got
autoupdates enabled, they've probably got it already, but it'd be good to
check.

I'm not certain, but I believe the workstations only update GMT time from the
PDC. If you haven't changed the timezone settings, the GMT time will be correct
but the local time will be wrong. (Or, depending on what you do on the PDC, the
local time will be correct but the GMT time will be wrong. This could cause you
problems.)

If you think about it, there's no reason why the PDC and the clients have to be
in the same time zone - so you can't expect time zone changes to be synchronised.

OK let me tell you the rest of the story. We have a mixed environment with
no updates turned on the 240+ pcs due to a serious legacy situation with
mainframe and open systems. I have 12 Windows 2000, 48 Pre SP2 WinXP, and
the rest are alright WinXP. We are pushing out with WSUS however only 81
have checked in due to SID issues (duplicated). I have decided to do the
push out, update all XP to SP2 with SUS and then Friday look who is missing.
Apply new SID, and GPUpdate /force to apply and see Tuesday who is still
missing. I also have 37 outside employees that are not included in this
list? It is a bummer to be a small shop!
