I'm building a website for my daughters track team. I will be the webmaster
but sometimes the coaches will need to go in and add the latest information
like "meet postponed due to weather". This will be OK as long as they are at
the school but most probably this kind of info will have to be added from
their home. Does anyone have a suggestion to how I can solve this that is how
can I let them enter information and have it published under the NEWS page
without them having access to FrontPage???

Take a look at FP MVP Chris Leeds' Content Seed:

They can upload pages with an FTP program, if they know html and can set up
a page in Notepad.

That might not be the best way, so they can make a page in MS Word or
something if it is just a brief notice to put on the site.

However if the site normally is published by http mode through frontpage
uploading by an FTP program will likely corrupt the server extensions, which
can be an exercise in itself to get them functioning again (requires
uninstall/reinstall either by yourself through your hosting control panel or
the host's support).

OR you could set up some sort of content management system that allows
anyone (with permission/username/password) to edit and save a page to the
internet server. It has a GUI editor and you can add a page through your
browser. This would be the easiest if all the coach needs to put is
"Training Cancelled" or whatever.

There are plenty of those around (free, and pay-for) you'd just need to hunt
around for one.

Otherwise I can't suggest anything, without the coach requiring Frontpage
him/herself.

*If* the host server has FTP set up, with all the appropriate permissions.

THANK YOU so much for your answers, I didn't even know it was called content
management (new at this). The first suggestion looks great but unfortunately
I think it is to expensive for our high school track team, but there seams to
be cheaper once to. We will have FTP on the server that will host our site.
Right now we are using a free service, so I will test as soon as we are up
and running.

Or, if your host supports ASP and Access database, a web page interface could let him
update a "Message from the coach". A fairly complex solution however.

You are right I didn't look all the way to the end of the page. $50 is OK we
can afford that. Contentseed looks great and just what we need so I hope to
be on our new server next week so I can go ahead and install, nothing else
seams to be close to as nice and straight forward. THANKS all for your help..

YW and Chris is a good guy and a contributor on this ng...he'll help ya if
you need it.
