I was given a computer that is running Windows 2000
professional. Do I have to upgrade to Windows XP or can I
upgrade to Windows 2000 Home.

Do you HAVE to update ? ;-)

There is no such thing as Windows 2000 Home,
its "Windows XP Professional" and "Windows XP Home"
both the newer version of Windows 2000 professional

Unless you need some of the new functionality of Windows XP, stick with 2000
pro. It makes a great, stable home operating system.

Hi Diana

There exists nothing such as 'Windows 2000 Home'. However, you can update
from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro and only Windows XP Pro, an Update
to Windows XP Home from 2000 pro is *not* supported.

More Information on Upgrading to Windows XP can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/matrix.asp

However, you don't really need to upgrade from 2000 to XP unless you need
one of the only-XP features. More info on Windows XP can be found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/default.asp

Don't be too sad that you cannot update to Windows XP Home as this version
is much less rich on features than the Pro Version. For example, the new
Smart Displays are only supported by XP Pro.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
