Hi,
I am using Windows Defender as I liked its predecessor MS Antispyware. but I
am having issues with getting updates for it, even with a complete uninstall
and a reinstall of newer download, I am unable to get the latest definitions.
I know that a anti-spyware tool is as strong as its definitions, and so i
feel crippled without the latest updates.
We are not allowed to use the windowsupdate.microsoft.com to do our updates
as it is restricted by network/domain policies, where the necessary updates
are sent to us. I was wondering if there is a way to get these updates
without haveing to go through windowsupdate.com
Thank you

Check the .announcements and .signatures groups for messages heralding the
arrival of new definition versions. These will often have direct URL's do
download definitions--such as this example from Engel.

I would recommend caution, however: Although Windows Defender is intended
to protect your system from malware, all anti-malware products have some
level of risk of false positives--and a number of these have occurred
through the course of the beta. There's some risk to disruption of a
carefully managed corporate network, even from a product intended to do good
things.
