Updating Vista graphics drivers

I have always understood that old graphics drivers must be uninstalled
before you install the new ones. But when you do this with Vista, and then
reboot, Vista immediately installs its generic drivers, leaving you no
choice but to install over the top of them. Is this OK? It is just that I am
disappointed with the Vista Performance subscore for this card (GEForce 7600
GS 512 Mb) of 4.6/4.8 - I have seen others reporting 5.6 for this card...

I can't find any instructions on the nvidia website for carrying out this
procedure.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

GEForce 7600 GS PCIExpress 512 Mb
Gigabyte 965P-DS4 m/b

It's ok to just install new graphics drivers. Download this driver -
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html just turn
off your antivirus software.

Many thanks Jim...strange, I couldn't find that driver (101.41) on Nvidia's
site, only 100.65. So I have installed it and, would you believe, the Gaming
Graphics score has dropped from 4.6 to 4.4 - available graphics memory has
gone from 527Mb to 751Mb. So the driver isn't my problem it seems.

Really appreciate your help, thanks again,

Max

The 101.41 beta drivers are on the nVidia site, below the reference to
100.65.. to go back to 100.65, uninstall the nVidia Toolbox and drivers from
CP's Add/Remove Programs, then reinstall 100.65..

One more point.. the various releases of nVidia drivers have all had
different effects on a variety of programs.. rather than go by the
performance index, use the driver that has the least annoying effects on
whatever programs you use most.. :)

It specifically states that the beta drivers are not optimized yet.
