If you have some knowledge of the remedy please

The XP CD has the original version of Windows XP - it cannot be used to
"update" files.

Chkdsk (which replaces scandisk) run with the /r switch detects physical
damage on the surface of the hard disk, tries to recover any information
contained in those areas (if any), and tells the operating system not to use
the damaged areas in future.

There's no shame in being a novice - we all were. So instead of using
terminology that you don't understand, why not tell us in plain English what
happened, as precisely as you can. We'll try to find a solution for you,
free of geek-speak. Promise.
