We currently have a few hundred users running WinNT or Windows 2000. All
users are in the same 2000 domain. All users are using Outlook 2000 or 2002
and connecting to a VMS Mail Server. My manager wants me to change a few
settings in everybodys Outlook config to include the following:

Wants all users .pst files to be located in their home drive, usually H:/
Wants everyones send and receive settings to be set to send and receive
every 15 minutes

I thought the Office Resouce Kit would be able to do this but am unable to
figure out for sure. Anybody have a way to make these changes on everyones
machine without having to visit everyones machine, or put out documentation
for the users to follow?

Outlook 2000
------------------

The sample .prf file is at

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#outlook

You would need to use Modprof.exe along with the modified .prf file. You can
get Modprof.exe at

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#outladm

Outlook 2002
----------------

The custom maintenance wizard and other tools can be downloaded from:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/appndx/appc00.htm

You will need to download Orktools.exe.

To apply a .prf file in Outlook 2002 use the information on the following
page:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/four/outc03.htm

NOTE: Modprof.exe cannot be used with Outlook 2002. So, you need to utilize
one of the methods listed on the above page.

do i need to use the office 2000 resource kit for the office 2000 installs
and the office xp kit for the office xp installs if I just want to use a
.prf file for both?

And where do I get the office resource kits that i need?

Thanks,
JBailey

I will start with the Send/Receive settings part of this post.
Unfortunately, there is no way to configure Send/Receive settings in Outlook
2002. There is a hotfix that will allow you to push out the "synchronize on
exit" setting, but that is all.

To change the location of .pst files you would need to use a .prf file (for
both Outlook 2000 and 2002) or the Custom Maintenance Wizard for Outlook
2002. Please let me know if you have any questions about either approach.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a pointer or link to the hotfix?

Thank you,
