I'm wondering if I can put a simple chart on my website - it's kind of like
a calendar with time slots on one axis and jobs to be filled on the other -
I would like volunteers to be able to go to the website and put in their
name in one or more slots of jobs they are willing to do. At the appropriate
time I would copy the form, do any final adjusting necessary, and publish
the final version. It's a non-critical application - people would be on the
honor system to not remove or replace anyone's name already listed, they
don't have to match records in a data base, etc.

I'm using XP Home, so I don't have access to IIS, ASP, and am unfamiliar
with them anyway. I do have Access 2002, but from what have read in various
places, doesn't look like I could use it anyway.

Would appreciate any guidance on this.

No.....can you open the site live through Frontpage that is.

File > Open Site > (put in your full URL to your site) > Enter your login
details etc.

Then if it succeeds, you're working "live" on the web site on the server
rather than your local PC.

Yes, I can upload files, make changes, etc. - is that what you mean?

OK - well, my question mave have been a little premature - I don't have
FrontPage installed yet - probably will in the next week. I may have to use
a different web host, as the one I am using says the following in their FAQ:

Some of the FrontPage features require hosting on a Microsoft Windows
environment. Because of this the following features are not available on our
UNIX servers:
a.. Active Server Pages (ASP)
b.. ODBC and SQL Database connections (Access, SQL Server)
c.. Server-side ActiveX
d.. Server-side Scripting (VBScript)

Assuming I wind up being able to work "live" on the web site, I get back to
my original question - can others update a chart similar to an Excel
spreadsheet online, or will it have to be through a data base. There's an
example on MS's web site of a school calendar which would be similar to what
I need. It uses an Access data base.

Jim

You can use Excel, however Access would be better. However you will have to be hosted on a Windows
IIS web server, not Unix/Linux to use Excel/Access and ASP and the FP database component
(Access/ASP)
