Updating ME system with IE6 SP1

Reloading to a new C drive W Update of IE6 SP1 aborts at 74%. Suggests
resumeing later but to no avail. Tried checking for 0 oem files and updating
in troubleshooter mode but neither works. Any ideas??
 
When installing IE, it's best to first do a power-off reboot, then disable
any anti-virus program you may have running, then do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and End
Task on everything on the list except (Windows) Explorer and Systray. Then
try your install again. This method will help prevent any program you may
have running in the background, and the anti-virus software, from
interfering with the install of IE. Some AV software just plain messes up
an install of IE, and other programs may be using a file that IE needs to
update/replace/remove.
 
Many thanks for this. Unfortunately I tried your suggestion and the same
outcome occured. I tried again as 'minimal' installation and it progresed to
94% but again aborted. I'd welcome any more suggestions.
 
Disable your anti-virus application and any real-time protection of your
firewall and/or anti-spyware application(s).
