updating drivers in xp home

I've tried updating one of my drivers (creative
soundblaster audigy ex) from the manufacturers website
and not sure how to do this (reason is that I suspect
original driver was causing crashes)
I chose the open option and it was saved to the temp file
in windows. when i check the device manager the diver
version doesnt seem to have changed. Can someone give me
a simple step by step process or let me know where I can
find one?

Control panel, system, device manager, expand "sound, video and game controllers,
right-click the sound card, properties, driver tab, update driver, install from a
list or specific location, next, don't search, next, click have disk, browse to your
download.
