I see there how to check what version of the definition
files you are running. And how to enable automagic updates.
What I want to do is add an individual entry allowing a
service to be installed. OR I want to disable that part of
the product or the whole product for a brief period of
time.

Well, within MSAS - Real time protection you have
Agents for Internet, Apps and System to "play" with.

Right click on MSAS icon also gives shutdown and disabling off all
agents.

One of my colleagues pointed me to
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;892375#kb3
which says the workaround if to disable realtime
monitoring. I'm not sure one can do this with a script.

Well, this is a Beta for standalone PC,s not for centrally managed
clients with
SMS etc. nor for production environments.

MS works on a corporate version. If you are in hurry look at Sunbelts
solution (MSAS cousin).
