How can we update all the messages or headers in ALL our newsgroups at one
time?

As we select each newsgroup we are subscribed to, the newsgroup
automatically downloads all new messages or headers. This can take a
considerable time depending on the size of the newsgroup. This makes it
difficult to move from newsgroup to newsgroup checking for new messages
because you must wait for each newsgroup to update. We would much rather
selection an option to update all newsgroups at once, and then return when
the process is done and check all the newsgroups for new messages without
waiting for each newsgroup to update. Thank you for any thoughts on this
issue?

If you are using Windows Mail, click on Tools/Synchronize All.

Problem is Robert, the Synchronize All option doesn't work and actually
never has. This was one of many bug reports that I submitted during the beta
test of Vista. It never did get corrected.

I better clarify my last post a little more. If you subscribe to one set of
newgroups and click the synchronize all button Windows Mail will attempt to
contact, first your email account to see if you have any new emails and then
it will contact the newsgroup server ( for example I have newsgroups
sections - Beta, MVP and News - all having different NNTP servers). If I
click the Synchronize All option Vista immediately checks my email account
followed by the first newsgroup server on my machine, i.e., Beta. None of
the other newsgroups are polled which, to me, seems to defeat the object of
synchronizing all newsgroups.

It works for me so there must be some other settings involved.

I subscribe to two newsgroup servers and it downloads all the newsgroups
on both for me.

Hello John,

Since you can modify the SYNC setting for each newsgroup independently, is
there a chance that some of your newsgroups are set to "Not Sync"? This
could possibly explain why one of the groups synchronizes and the others
don't. If you highlight the server in the left pane (e.g. Microsoft
Communities) of the Windows Newsgroup reader, you will see all of your
subscribed newsgroups for that community and their synchronization settings.
The 'Synchronization Settings' column lists the type of synchronization
selected for each newsgroup, but the synchronization for the newsgroup is
still not activated unless there is a checkmark in the box to the left of
the synchronization type selection.

Thanks Robert, that was a great suggestion. Don't know how I overlooked
such an obvious feature!

Blue Max, the synchronization settings are all 'enabled' and are for headers
only. This is the same for every single newsgroup I subscribe to, so it
certainly isn't a question of the synchronization options not being checked,
but it was worth checking all the same; sadly the result is the same.
