Hi, my problem is that if I change data in my data source my Pivot Table
looks at it but doesn't update and bring the new entry into the table
alphabetically, it brings it in at the end of the table.

i.e. adding in stewart should report the data alphabetically for 'stewart'
before 'stuart' but
this doesn't happen. The data for stewart is reported at the bottom of the
pivot table.

Have I forgotted to 'check' a box somewhere that resorts the data in pivot
table??

Thanks in advance . . . Stuart

You can set a field to sort automatically:

1. Right-click the field button, and choose Field Settings
2. Click the Advanced button
3. Under Autosort, choose Ascending or Descending
4. Click OK, click OK

thanks debra

it worked but . . . now I seem to have four entries out of alphabetical
order at the start
i.e. Brighton, Hull, Oxford, Taunton come before Aabingdon (a test name to
jumpt to the start of the listing).

I've checked for spaces before the names and they don't exist.

any ideas?

thanks in advance . . . .Stuart

Do you have a custom list that includes those four cities? That could
make them appear at the top of the list.

no customer lists are being used

A custom list would be stored in Tools>Options>Custom Lists
(just to be sure that we're talking about the same thing)

If you sort the list in the source table, do the cities sort correctly?

If you type Oxford in a cell, point to the fill handle at the bottom
right of the cell, and drag down, what appears in the next cell?

Debra

My sincere apologies, I knew there were no custom lists on my machine, but
the machine I was working upon did have a custom list.

Thank you very much for your time and responses.

Problem solved . . . . . whooohooo !!

Thansk again . . . Stuart
