Whats the easiest whey to find out all your computer info
in reference to driver updates for your motherboard,
chipset, and everything else. I have a Gateway computer
and check their website periodicly but I get the feeling
they don't update too often. All the advise I read in
here is to update all the drivers. I keep my video card
and windows xp updated. I just worry about the mentioned
above. My computer works fine and all my games play
great, even Halo. Which seems rare after reading this
Newsgroup.LOL. I have a P4 2.4 gig proc, 1024 mbram, ati
9800 pro 256mb video card. Thanks for any info....

Hello,

First off, try to find out who made your motherboard, and
bookmark their website. The only time you need to check
for updates for your motherboard is when the BIOS won't
reconigze a drive, memory, or other hardware related
things.

Once you find out who made your motherboard, you can find
out the chipset and the rest of the that stuff. I had a
prebuilt computer, and it was hard for me to find out the
manufacturer of my motherboard. I hope you have better
luck.

HEY,

So in other words don't worry about it until I get some
kind of error msg. Like when I install my next game.
Which will be Call of Duty. Or after one of my games,
screws up after a patch. I've already done a little
digging trying to find info on my system and your right.
It's a real pain in the ***. Thanks for the info.....

That's why they say 'Never change a running system.' ;-)

However you should ensure that you always install security related updates
to protect your computer.
It is not necessary to install every driver update, unless some serious
issue in a driver becomes fixed.
New drivers may offer better performance and new features, but might cause
problems as well.
Usually you can only find out by installing the driver.
System restore points, Windows' driver rollback feature and the Last Known
Good option at startup help prevent a complete reinstallation of the system
if something really goes wrong.

You can usually find the mainboard manufacturer somewhere written on the
mainboard.

No, update only when HARDWARE requires it. You will not ordinarily run into
any software that requires you to update your BIOS. In fact, in all honesty,
the next time you update your BIOS, you will probably have to get a new
motherboard to go with it.

Also note that updating your BIOS isn't as safe as updating your software.
One glitch, one power failure, and you end up with a paperweight
motherboard.

Only update a BIOS when you absolutely have to.

Which is exactly why companies like VIA supply new 4-in-1 drivers for their
motherboards. It isn't a BIOS update, but it does manage to allow certain
functions intertwined with AGP graphics cards, for instance, to be used. If
a company issues an update for hardware, it should be installed because it
fixes something - whether or not we realize there is an error going on.

I went to belarc.com and downloaded it. Thanks for the info, it shows me everything............
