Latest version of MSAS still not updating definitions.Error report from MSAS
folderis: -2147319779::ln 0:Method '~' of object '~'
failed::gcasServ:modMain:Main::1/5/2006 11:33:31 AM:XP:1.0.701

Port 80 is open. Help instruction says to allow permission for:
MicrosoftAntiSpywareUpdater.exe in Windows Firewall settings. MSAS is
checked to allow. Does the Updater exe. need to be there also? And if so,
how?

Hi Larry,

Please try this solution (Thanks to CGARA)

Connect to the internet, open Windows Explorer, then select in order, the
plus signs beside "My computer", "Local disk", and "Programs".

Then double on "Microsoft Antispy" and then "GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater.exe".

That is the file next to the pale satellite dish symbol.

With luck, all will be resolved provided you follow the prompts.

I hope that (this) post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

Engel

Thanks Engel Tried fix and when clicking on GIANTAntiSpywareUpdater it does
nothing. The cursor hourglass flashes quickly and disappears.I went back and
checked if definitions/definition date had changed and no go. Posted work
around will install the updates manually, but date never changes. Tried
removing reinstalling several times.

That fix should work for folks having trouble updating from .615 to .701.

It doesn't do anything for definition updates, as far as I know.
