When I click the "Check for Updates" link in the file menu, it says that I am
not connected to the internet and could not establish a connection with the
update server. But I am always connected. I have allowed MSAS in Windows
Firewall, but that didn't help either.

What port does MSAS use so I can forward that port in my router?

I am having the same problem.

I tried on two other systems, none are able to reach the internet. If anyone
fixes it please let us know. I am hoping it is on Microsoft end.

Having same problem, only with MSFT AS and on multiple computers. Really
seems like it has to be at MSFT server end.

I am also experiencing the same problem. Researching the issue, I came across
a thread back in July where a number of users were experiencing the same
problem. At first, they thought it had something to do with their routers. It
turned out to be a problem on Microsoft's end their server). I'm just going
to bide my time and wait.

I've also noted that MS still refers to the latest build as 1.0.615.
Recently, after signing on, the program updated itself and my build is now
1.0.701.

Tracy - given the volume of messages I see this morning with a similar
issue. I believe this problem is probably not on the individual desktops,
but at the server level.

Give it some time--they'll get it fixed.

That seems a resonable supposition to me, looking at the traffic level with
this same issue.

i'm also having the same problem with my program. the most reasonable thing
is that the server is down.

I've got the same issues + spybot wont update either. I've spent the last 2
hours scanning system etc.

Still out - this is a long outage. I first tried at about 7am EST, now at
almost 5 pm EST, so 10 hours. I know the software is beta, but the server end
should be more reliable than this.

Sorry I omitted that info. Just download the 3 individual definition files
and then copy/move them to the Program Files folder for MS - ASW.
A reboot might be in order, and then open MS - ASW and check the
main screen Spyware Definitions date - it should read Dec 8, 2005 or
click Help, About Microsoft AntiSpyware and it will display the version
ID of 5783.

The Beta of anti-spy i have is 1.0.701....is this what everyone else have
and if so is it the prob-?...i can not update either..

I have the same version as you and this update problem started yesterday. MS
is aware of the issue and they are trying to resolve it ASAP. It isn't you or
me or anyone else except MS. Remember guys, and gals, this is Beta and not
all the bugs are worked out.

I'm wth you. My version is up to date. If Microsft servers are down, I'll
wait before I go messng with unknown files. We all DID know that this is a
BETA test. Dont be shocked at anything that happens. I've had beta programs
wipe my hard drives before. i'm happy that Microsoft is making an effort to
protect us from what they allowed in to my PC in the first place.
Good luck you all.

It is strange it is down for such a long time. This happened to me after
installing new version. My old one expired.
