why don't the updates ever load correctly? I can run the
update 10 times and each time it will indicate it is
installing new updates.

Probably because you are using an outdated version of the
software that had problems updating the definition
files. You are likely running build 614 (i.e., version
1.0.614 from Help > About Microsoft Windows
AntiSpyware...). This build's installer DID NOT update a
critical file, gcUncompress.dll, that's used to
uncompress the definition files.

Goto http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?
FamilyId=321CD7A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-
DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en and download the latest
version build 615.

Uninstall the outdated version, delete the entire MSAS
folder from c:\program files, and reboot. Now install
the new version. You shouldn't have a problem updating
the definitions any more.

This is why it's VERY important to keep up-to-date with
the newsgroups for any beta software, and to check the
software company's web site regularly to see if any new
versions of the beta software is available for download.
Never, AND I MEAN NEVER, trust that you have the latest
version of any beta software just because the program
states that you do. Doing so can cause problems you
don't even want to think about.
