I have the msblaster, am trying to update with sp4 and
then do the patch but my system won't let me do anything.
Is there anyway that I can download these from another
computer and then load them into mine

Hi Lynda

Thanks to Dana for pointing the removal tool out.

First, install the Security Patch which is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...46-F541-4C15-8C9F-220354449117&displaylang=en

NOTE: In order to install the Security Patch you must *at least* be running
Windows 2000 Service Pack 2. To determind which Service Pack (if any at all)
you are running do this:

- Go to 'Start' and there Select 'Run..'.
- In the new window that appears type "winver" (without the ") and there see
what it says.

If it says Service Pack 2, Service Pack 3 or Service Pack 4 its fine. In
that case go ahead with the Installation of the Security Patch.

If you have *no* Service Pack or *Service Pack 1* installed, please post
back here so that I can tell you what you have to do in that case.

After having verified that the Patch is installed, scan your System with
your AV Program for the Worm (be sure to have the latest Virus definitions
loaded). Once the Worm is eliminated, restart your System and everything
should be running fine again.

Otherwise, if you have no AV or no updated AV Program, a free
W32.Blaster.Worm Removal Tool can be downloaded here:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

It's also recommended to scan your system too for a Worm related to this
one. Download this free Tool to scan for this other Worm:

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/FixWelch.exe

To learn everything about the MS Blaster Worm and how to protect yourself
best, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

After those two Steps, reasart your Computer and do the SP4 Setup.

NOTE: Always backup your system *before* installing and please choose to
archive the files during Setup as this will allow you to roll back the SP
Installation in the unlikely case that problems would occur.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
