Truly I know NOTHING about all the technical jargon
dealing with computers. It's Sunday morning, all I
wanted to do was check my Yahoo account and I'm getting
all this info about updating security, etc. I have no
clue what I need to do . . . how much space and time it's
going to take. I DO know one thing, I get an awful lot
of "errors" that ask me if I want to report them. I
don't know where the "reports" go or if this is a result
of all the reports ??? If it needs updating because my
reports are suspicious or dangerous . . . can't it just
be done from a remote location, like whoever is receiving
the error reports? Reading thru all those choices is too
confusing and I sure don't know what I really need or
don't need. If it's all good, then why not just make the
adjustment for us? Thanks for listening . . . Still
Confused . . .

Viki,

Just go to Windows Update , it should be on your start menu and when you get
there click the "Scan for Updates" link.
This will scan your PC to see what you need that are critical to your PC.
It will then select the critical ones automatically for you so then click on
the Review and install updates link then click the Install now button.

Once you are all up to date then just enable Auto Update (on the properties
of My Computer) so that you will be automatically kept up to date.

Mike,

I've been trying since mid July to download and install
critical updates etc. .... I've had several
failures.....Now I can't even get to see what updates were
installed or failed.

I did get alerts about the ms blast worm, ran fix it tool
from Symantec. thought all those problems with worm were
gone, however I've had several times when Alert has come
up. I have run several virus scans but it never finds a
problem. Still got Alerts. It is now time to update or
upgrade my virus protection (not sure whether to update
from NAV 2002 or Upgrade to NAV 2003 or NAV 2004 or
Internet Security).

I've found When I click on the Advanced tab to view
properties for my network connections I get the "The
Windows Management Instrumentation Information Might Be
Corrupted". Would this have anything to do with Update
problems?

There seem to be several problems in this Windows XP home
edition OEM lately. Don't know where to start/turn.
Maybe I should just take CPU back to Gateway to FIX.

Thanks for listening. Any suggestions?

Mary
