Using XP Pro with SP2. Updated XP & Office XP only a few days ago.
Downloaded and installed latest MS security updates today. I think it was
around 8 totalling 6.5MB. Asked to reboot after installation. Did so and
it rebooted in standard VGA mode. It wouldn't let me do anything else,
appeared permanently busy. Couldn't get to System Restore, Last known good
configuration, Safe Mode or anything else.
Luckily I had an image from only a few days ago using Acronis True Image and
I was able to boot from the Acronis CD and restore that image.
Why do these so called critical updates cause so many problems for so many
people?

Hi Kenny,

This is the first and only report I've seen of any trouble with the updates
released Tuesday. Rebooting into VGA mode indicates a display driver
problem, or that the system has booted to safe mode (easy to distinguish if
it has). Shut down and restart cold, then hit the F8 key repeatedly before
Windows begins to load (immediately after the initial system POST, but not
during). Then select Safe mode where you can uninstall any updates from the
Control Panel/Add & Remove.

I stopped doing updates. SP2 was updated automatically on my machine when
it came out a few months ago. I had a ton of problems and did a system
restore and turned off my auto updates. It seems the only things that hurt
my computer come from MS updates.

I updated my system yesterday and all is well on my XP Home system. The only
update I have not done is the Windows Media Connect Update as I dont see it
needed....

By the way, anyone else using the Microsoft Antispyware Beta? I love
it......

Yes, and I agree with you. Spybot is finding no new objects, so AntiSypware
looks effective.

I tried the Microsoft Antispware Beta. This seems like a fine application
with the exception, I don't like anything that I can't turn off and on at my
discretion. It is either always on or uninstalled.

Thats not true. When it is running, right click on the icon in the system
tray and select shutdown. It does not uninstall.......

Hi,

I have updated 70 computers at work and 3 of my personal computers with the
latest updates and haven`t had any problems with any of the systems.
Sometimes the display driver might have a problem, have you updated the
display driver to the latest one?

I updated all the progs from MS and now i keep getting 100% CPU usage and a
file in Task Manager called GetPopupInfo.exe.

If I kill it the CPU returns to normal. Can I permanently get rid of this as
it keeps coming back when using explorer or clicking on a mpg file.

Thanks.
