updates wont work

my definitions are 2 months out of date and the program
says they are current when I do a manual update.
Tried reinstalling with no luck. any suggestions
 
Try an update install to see if this fixes the issue:

control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft
Antispyware, change, update

Hi

Shutdown MSAS, right click on systray icon and choose Shutdown

Open Programfiles/Microsoft Antispyware with Windows Explorer

Delete:
gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
and
gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Start MSAS again and menu file-check for updates.
 
I would try plun's idea before just quitting :) If it still does not work
after deleting the signature files, you may want to re-try at beta 2.

Tried this method, and while connected via cable modem to
internet, MSAS when contacting the update server always
comes back with error message that it could not connect to
the internet. Any new suggestions?

What firewall are you running ? Any proxy ? ISP proxy ?
