Updates from Access 2000 to Linked Excel files corrupts them

I read the workaround to this problem that someone posted earlier in
this group. It is to import the excel file into Access 2000 as a
table, do the updates to the table and then export the updated table
to Excel. Given the frequency with which I am asked to update Excel
files from Access in my job, I would appreciate any other ideas to fix
this. Access 2000 has corrupted Excel files on me twice. Many other
updates I have done did not corrupt files. I wish I knew what the
problem was.

Hi CJ,

I don't have an answer to your question, I'm afraid. But in principle
it's preferable to store your data in the database and have the
spreadsheets fetch the latest, or check for updates, or update the
central data store, when they run. Can you set it up that way?

Another possibility - I haven't tried it properly myself but would in
your situation - might be to store the data on a protected sheet in the
workbook which would contain nothing but the data and which the user
could not edit directly. The sheets where the data is actually used
and/or edited would contain links to this protected data table, and
Acces would read and write to this as well.

This is the same problem I'm having - can you explain how I would set up the below?

Hi Dave,

If necessary, set up a query in Access that delivers the data you need.
Then go to Excel, take a deep breath, and dive into the Help system. In
Excel 2002, the article you need is called "About exchanging data
between Excel and Access"; in other versions the title may be different.
