Where would i find an update for a defragment tool? I have been all over the Microsoft site and still nothing. Can someone point me in the right direction plz. Version 1.0 just isnt cutting it.

Are you up to date with all the Windows XP updates. The version of Defrag.exe on my machine is version 5.1.2600.1106 dated 29 August 2002.

In what way isn't it cutting it? What is the problem? You do need to have 15% free space for it to work -20%+ is preferable.

Hope this helps.

The microsoft defragger is terrible! I've found that even
after running it once in normal Windows mode, once in
Safe Mode, and then again in normal mode, I still had 7%
fragementation on a drive that I use a lot for image
editing. The drive still had 45% free, so that wasn't the
problem. Also, looking at the analysis screen, the blue
and red bars were scattered throughout the hard drive,
aka free space fragmentation.

Like the original post said, the XP defragger just
doesn't cut it... look into something like Raxco's
PerfectDisk for a great defragging tool.

Hope this helps,

Is that with a FAT32 or NTFS formatted disk? Are your image editing files in a separate partition or mixed in with all your other files? Is "Show all Files and Folders" enabled?

I don't think there is an update for MS Defrag. The original worked fine
as far as I can recall.

Perhaps you're looking for something else?
