updates for defender

When i try to install updates I get the following error message 0x80240022
stating update failed. I'm running windows 2000 with service pack 4. What can
I do to get updates?

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these f!les.
 
All updates to all windows applications are current. I see I'm not the only
one with problems. The old beta software was running great why do I have to
change?
 
I tried the what was recomended here and still unable to get update. Part of
the error message I keep getting states I have wrong diskett in drive. I'm
not using a diskett I down loaded defender from Microsoft web site.
 
I've not read the full thread here, so forgive me if this has already been
tried.

Please visit Windows Update, and do an express scan, and install everything
offered.

Finaly got it to work. I shut down system unpluged power to wireless router
and unpluged power to cable modem. Let stand for 5 minutes and reconnect
both. Turned on computer and went throuigh normal start up procedure. Got
message on defender window that last defination update was done 8/4 at 2:10pm.
