UPDATES FAIL!!

last week i noticed WINDOWS DEFENDER DEFS have not been updated in 16 days
I opened WIN DEFENDOR to UPDATE THE DEFS
after few mins a small window popped up that read

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update:
0x80240022. The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert %2
[Volume Serial Number: %3] into drive %1.


I went to CONTROL PANEL - AUTOMATIC UPDATES
ALL Tabs are GREYED OUT.

I did a search on MS SITE for ERROR #
0x8000A0046

1st site I used for
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;883821#
i tried MS update, windows update all to no avail. i searched for the error
# on MS SITE and did ALL the recommendations it said about changing security,
permissions, etc.

2nd site I used for
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910338/

i got frustrated and quit.
today tried again. to NO AVAIL!


Can ANYONE at MS help get MY MACHINES UPDATED !
 
Try this workaround:

1. Remove the current signature file. To do this, click Start, click Run, type:
Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
and then click OK.
2. Open Windows Defender. To do this, click Start, click Programs,
and then click Windows Defender.
3. Check for new definitions. To do this, click the Help options arrow next
to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and
then click Check for Updates.
