Updates Changed The Way The Screen Scrolls

Last night when I shut down the computer, automatic updates were received.
This morning when I turned on the computer, my resolution was totally too low
and needed to be fixed which I did.

The change that has occurred is very troublesome. The screen is more or
less "flipping" as I scroll rather than just scrolling naturally. It is
making me dizzy, it is hard to read and follows, and I would like it back the
way it was.

I've searched and tried to find answers, looked under "My Computer" to
change it but haven't been able to find out how to rectify this most annoying
update.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Updated what?
You should only update using critical security updates and NOT driver
updates
Assuming you have updated your video driver, roll back your video driver
If you didnt install vid driver then you likely need to reinstall your video
drivers

I'm sorry but I have no clue about which you are referring.

I'm scheduled to receive automatic updates from Microsoft so what was done,
I haven't a clue and I can't seem to find anything on the site to inform me
of such. I assume they only update with critical security items. I've since
canceled this automatic update deal because this is utterly driving me crazy
the way the screen is acting.

What is a video driver and how do I do what you are educating me to do?

Thanks!

Every piece of hardware inside a computer has a piece of software called a
"driver" that tells the operating system (XP in your case) how to use the
hardware.

You probably installed a driver from Windows Updates which is A Bad Idea.
Many of the MVP's have been asking MS for years to not include drivers in
Windows Updates, but we lost that battle.

See this article for how to rollback your video driver and then do it:

The video driver is your display driver and that is why your scrolling is
all messed up.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>System>>Advanced>Performance>Settings.

Maybe a few of those got unchecked and scrolling is not smooth.

Is the driver I'm supposed to click on called "VIDEO CODECS"?

No. Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager. Expand the Display
category and you'll see your video adapter. Double-click on it to get its
Properties. Click on the Drivers tab and click the Roll Back Driver button.
This is clearly explained in the link I gave you.
