updates are rubbish

I was in a game, when Microsoft antispyware advised me
there was a newer version of the software. I couldnt
download it at that time, so I ticked the box that
said, "remind me after one day".

As it happens, I was not notified for a week or even past
that. Even when manually updating, there was no mention
of any software updates, or any new signatures. The only
updating that works, is the auto-scheduler, and its as
random as it likes. Sometimes updating, other times
nothing.

So in the end I just downloaded the new version off the
microsoft site.

This has problems now, with the scheduler.

The first beta I got off download.com, had no problems at
all.

Problems started from when I first downloaded a beta
(0.5.9, I think) of the MS website.

Just a little FYI.

Updated definition files are released about once a week,
or so.

Also, even though you don't see it updating, it likely
is. I had MSAS set to automaticaly update in the past.
I never saw the AutoUpdater window come up on the screen,
but when I checked Help > About Microsoft Windows
AntiSpyware..., I noticed that the current definition
files were higher than they previously were. Just
because you don't see it updating it very well might be.
It's a lot like Windows AutoUpdate, you might not see it
working, but it is.

As for not beign notified about the new version when
updating, this could have the same root cause as the
problems updating the definition files and they aren't
applied. I think there is a problem somewhere in the
code for the AutoUpdater. The problem is where, as there
are likely a lot of lines code that have to be debugged
line-by-line in order to find it.

Since this is a beta release, it's best to make certain
you have the latest version by checking the MSAS site to
see if a new version has been released. Right now
Microsoft's main focus is likely to be primarily on
getting the source code to match company protocol, to
address the more pressing issues with the product, such
as false positives and false negatives, in order to make
sur the product does what they want it to do, and then
address the over issues as time permits.

Its just that since the very first Beta worked perfectly
for me, I guess I expected "what wasn't broke not to be
fixed".
Yes, I got the 1 week thing wrong, but just in comparison
for the autoupdater, the first beta, I chose for the
autoupdater to notify me of new updates, this it did at
around the same time everyday without fail. THis is
anothing thing that has been broke.
Is a new version going to be lauched anytime soon? As I
dont usually use the internet first thing in the morning,
and since PM is not recognised in scheduler, I dont want
to have to manually scan all the time. I have version 614
