I saw a total of 17 on the sole Vista Business machine I updated so far.
One was definitions for Forefront, but all the others were Windows or
Office.

add too it
3 for office
1 for office excel
1 for outlook 2003 junk email filter
one for MS Word
also for office 2007
kb956828 and kb956357
and funny one of my machines doesn't have the malicious one yet

also I got 15 (that is including the office ones) for vista home premium

you know I did not see at all on 5 computers so far the windows malicious
software removal tool for december
I wonder why?
all the rest are there

Robin,

When I manually checked for the December Updates this afternoon for my XP
SP3 machine, I did get the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool -
December 2008 (KB890830).

I have no idea why some people would get it and others wouldn't.

And, to answer your other question, I had no problem with any of the
updates.

weird alan, I just did the updates on 6 computers and none of them had it,
I just did a recheck to see if I am crazy and now it says there are no
updates
I think I will try again tomorrow and see if it pops up on mine
I plan on doing 40 of them in the next few days, I will be curious who has
it and who as not
but
I installed all the updates on both my vista and xp sp3 computers with no
problems

My impression is that the Malicious software removal tool is sometimes
prioritized below the others--so it will come last, or perhaps in a later
run.

I had some problems with the latest set of updates, I could access and play
World of Warcraft, but when I went to use Explorer and check my e-mail....
nothing.

I eventually did a restore and everything is working as advertised again.

Could this be a repeat of the Zone Alarm problem from a few months back?

I have XP with service pack 3 and have been keeping up with all 'important'
upgrades.

When I went to get the updates, the KB954600 one said FAILED! After I did a
reboot and my machine came on again, then I got the shield for the 600 one.
Was really weird, but they are all there now. Oh well, guess we need a clitch
every so often.

I only got 5. I have XP PRO, with SP3, but no Vista, and I have IE6.

You might want to call Microsoft at 1-866-pcsafety.

It helps them to hear about this kind of issue.

One way to deal with it would be to install the updates one by one until you
hit one that causes the issue. I didn't look at this set of updates in
detail, but I'd expect that most if not all of them should be uninstallable.

I am today in the process of doing 40 computers for the ms security updates
and not one of them (and they are all over NJ) have the one for windows
malicious software removal tool for Dec- whynot?
robin

I dunno--but I was doing the same for 30 machines in Philly today--and it
did come in. Sometimes in a separate run after all the others--but it did
arrive.

For those with Office 2007, running custom instead of express will show
several updates to its component's Help files, as well as one for
Windows Search.
