updates and picture attachments

Yesterday I downloaded and installed two critical updates. After I
installed SP 2 two weeks ago.

Since then I am unable to receive pictures as attachments. I get a <Red X<
but no pictures.
I do not know if there is any connection between the update and the <red X>.

I changed the following setting in Outlook express.
Tools options
read; I unclicked read all messages in plain text.

The following settings in> Security< are unclicked too.

-Do not allow attachments ......

-Block images and other external contents in email..

Alt + shift + H doesn`t seem to work

I am at my wits end. Any help appreciated.

OS. Windows xp with latest updates. Outlook express.
