Updater for Automatic Updates

Regarding the Updater for Automatic update.

I installed and syncronized the SUS Server without
problem. I have run into a brick wall when trying to run
the WUAU22 installer to update Automatic Update on client
computers. I get an error early on saying that I must be
running Windows 2000 w/SP2 or Windows XP. I am trying to
run this program on a computer with Windows XP
Professional with all service packs and patches installed.

Any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated.

Hi

You are mis-interpreting the error message (and you aren't the first one, it's
badly worded). Wuau22.msi can *only* be installed on Win2k SP2 and Win XP Gold
(SP0). All newer versions has the SUS client already installed, you only need
to configure the client to start using your SUS server :)

Fyi, there is a separate newsgroup for SUS:

microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

URL to the group softwareupdatesvcs for those who uses the not so good Web
interface to access the newsgroups:
http://communities.microsoft.com/Ne...newsgroup=microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

A Web site about SUS with a FAQ and a SUS forum: http://www.susserver.com/
