Hi there:

Say Bill S, Andre, Engel, or Plun: Were there massive complaints regarding
the now previous 5771 build wiping out files on folks' C drives? I've been
away and haven't had a chance to check the MSAS as throughly as I usually do.
I don't see any such reports, but could have missed a rash of them.

Reason I ask is that I have the sad duty to report that the WOC folks want
to blame my MSAS or my SpyWareBlaster (last update on that 10/22/05...so no
dice, it wasn't that!) for my recent loss of files on the C drive....?

Go figure...they said they checked my bugged logs...I'm not arguing with
experts mind you, I just don't believe this particular explanation.

Regards,

RobbieA

Not that I've noticed.

I've run both Microsoft products you mention, with all the updates, on a
number of machines--through all the recent updates, without that kind of
issue.

I think their analysis result looks quite unlikely to me, but I'm not sure
I'd blame them either. I think there are probably other possible causes.

Microsoft Antispyware maintains CLEANER.LOG in the installation folder to
log actions taken in cleaning after scans--so that would be worth preserving
as evidence.

Hi RibbieA

Never heard of any trouble except the Kazaa/My shared folder problem.

Seen it in several forums, "MSAS wiped out all of my music files" but
thats another problem. ;)

MSAS Beta 1 is a "weak scanner" today compared to others.

RobbieA was thinking very hard :

Hi Andy

Well maybe, tested Counterspy 1.5 and it was not good.

SpySweeper is great. And also of course Ewido.

Also my TM PC-Cillin 2006 Final is great.

We will see about Defendern..........

Yes Kazaa exist:

http://www.kazaa.com/us/index.htm

Also angry users about "My shared folder", Don´t install
MSAS is the mission in a lot of forums.

I wouldn't judge Defender by Counterspy at all--I don't think there will be
a great deal of commonality.

Did you notice that they've stated that the Microsoft Research Strider
root-kit detection technology will be built into Defender?

http://research.microsoft.com/rootkit/

I think the Kazaa issue is the greatest failure of this beta.

Hi Bill et. al.:

Thanks to All for the info....I didn't think I had missed any great file
delete issue with the 5771 Build.

Plun, I do remember the Kazaa\missing music files issue very well. I've
never had Kazaa or any variants on-board.

Bill, Re your:

"Microsoft Antispyware maintains CLEANER.LOG in the installation folder to
log actions taken in cleaning after scans--so that would be worth preserving
as evidence."

I don't seem to be able to find a Cleaner.log in my C:\Programs\MSAS\
anyplace....Is it someplace else? (I don't think I deleted it...?)

Tks again,

RobbieA

Maybe you never cleaned anything?

If you've got other logs there, you are in the right place.
