i tried to start win messenger a couple of days ago and was told i had to
upgrade before i could sign in. i followed the prompts to install the update
and now cannot even access the program to try to sign in. the messenger icon
is still visible and when i double-click on it, my computer acts like it's
going to respond, but it doesn't. if anyone else has experienced this
problem and solved it, i'd like to know how you did it.

thanks.

I have the same problem, only i recieved a file via messenger that has done
something to my pc.The person i was talking to at the time, didnt even send
me the file. I cant even sign into messenger now as my password has changed
and i cant get it back by any means. I even had the most recent messenger,
Beta. This was supposed to have the latest security on it. Obviously it didnt.

Hello, I have been in the same bote since 8 days ago. Impossible to sign in;
is not working. I have received two responses from two technitians I have
followed all the steps and I'm still can not connect. I have beta and XP. I
do not know what else to do.

after i posted my message i began noticing other problems with my
computer...namely that it was taking an insanely long time to shut down my
computer and programs were freezing up more and more frequently the screen.
(i had to manually turn it off several times.) a friend of mine suggested i
try ad-aware and spybot. after installing/running both of those free
programs, my computer ran much faster and messenger actually works. both
programs found junk on my hard drive i didn't know was there and deleted it.
i also re-installed windows messenger (5.1) from microsoft downloads, so i
have the most up-to-date version.

using those programs seemed to solve my problem...i don't know if they would
resolve yours, but it might be worth a try.
